Krakart Group
Meta Description
KrakArt is a group of seven Polish-American visual artists residing in Los Angeles, California. Andrew Kolo, the painter, established the group in 1981. After the 1980 Exhibition of Polish Culture in the Museum of Science and Industry in Los Angeles, the participating Polish-American artists have joined the KrakArt Group: Andrew Kolo, Matthew Pomaski, Bona Radomska and Jan Skowron. Since originally they were from the city of Krakow, they named the group after the legendary Prince Krak, who saved their ancient town from a fiery Dragon. KrakArt’s first exhibition was held at the Top O’ Art Gallery in West Hollywood in 1981. Afterwards, for many years, the Modern Art Gallery in Los Angeles had been promoting group’s artworks. Fifteen KrakArt artists presented artworks at the ISC Gallery in Los Angeles in 1986. In addition, 23 artists exhibited at the Toporowicz Gallery in Santa Ana, CA in 1993.
The biggest event organized by KrakArt was an exhibition by 44 leading Polish artists from USA, Mexico, France, Germany, Portugal, Canada and Australia called Art Confrontations, held at the Modern Art Gallery in Los Angeles in 2003.
Following this success, KrakArt was invited to participate in several events, such as the International Art Festival in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2004, Galleria Del Sur in Mexico City in 2005, Kurier-Plus Gallery in NYC in 2006, Amber Gallery in Washington D.C. in 2007, and Roi Dore Galerie in
Paris, France, in 2012. The group celebrated its silver anniversary with an exhibition: Krak Confessions at the ASTO Museum of Art in Los Angeles, in 2003.
In 2018, a KrakArt show took place at the prestigious Bergamot Art Center - Building Bridges Art Exchange in Los Angeles. In 2020 the group had its first art presentation in Poland, at the Pulaski Museum in Warka and the Wspólnota Polska Gallery in Krakow, Poland. Current members of Krakart Group are Kasia Czerpak-Weglinski, Joanna Fodczuk-Garcia, Andrew Kolo, Leonard Konopelski, Janusz Maszkiewicz, Tomasz Misztal and Witold ”Vito” Wojcik.
