Artist Ilya Sobol – Interactive/Light/Public Art

I’m a self-taught interactive light artist and public art creator based in Los Angeles. Diagnosed with ASD and ADHD, I channel neurodivergence into a unique creative voice — one that thrives on pattern, connection, and the joyful unpredictability of human interaction. My works invite people to engage, touch, laugh, and feel seen — often using simple, universal gestures like hugs, movement, or color as both artistic medium and message. Over the past decade, my large-scale light sculptures have been exhibited more than 20 times across 7 countries, including the USA, Switzerland, Sweden, Croatia, Poland, Italy and others. My most widely presented installation, Polylight Heart Hug, has become a symbol of emotional connection in public space, showcased at over a dozen international festivals — from Portland Winter Light Festival(USA) and Canal Convergence(USA) to Zauberwald Lenzerheide(Switzerland), Light Move Festival(Poland), and Visualia(Croatia). Calling my practice “Arteinment,” I blend artistic vision with play and accessibility. I often work with cities, science festivals, and cultural institutions to create interactive installations that are as inviting as they are thought-provoking — reminding us that art, at its best, brings people closer together.
