【創立與傳承】
本會由宋彼得牧師於1953年創立，秉持華人教會「自立、自養、自傳」的精神。中心堂（原名九龍中心堂）則於1966年4月9日正式成立，最初選址於旺角新興大廈。宋牧師對福音充滿熱誠，除中心堂外，亦先後建立西大堂、小欖福音堂及中基堂，擴展聖工。
【醫療與福音並行】
60至70年代，因應香港人口激增及貧苦大眾需求，宋牧師開創「醫療宣教」先河，創辦永生醫務所並組織全港首創的「流動醫療福音車隊」。高峰時期共有十部醫療車巡迴全港，效法耶穌基督邊醫病邊傳道，造福人群。
【擴堂與轉型】
宋牧師早年因意外離世後，由宋林覺今師母接任監督，教會事工如團契、主日學及祈禱會等蓬勃發展。80年代因旺角環境轉變及空間不足，會友於1992年一致同意遷往煙廠街興發商業大廈現址。踏入千禧年代，教會進一步開辦學生功輔班及兒童崇拜，並增購同廈401室作為副堂以應付需求。
【宣教與社群結合】
2014年起，本堂積極參與泰北阿卡族宣教。受宣教啟發，2018年將副堂改造為咖啡室福音事工——「良亭雅敍」（Pavilion Cafe），透過開放空間與大眾接觸，將福音融入生活，實踐大使命。
